Dear SSFUSD Community,
Sending you warm wishes for a happy and safe upcoming Labor Day! We are almost through the first full month of school, and I’m happy to report that, despite challenges presented by COVID-19, the recent wild fires, and ongoing concerns about injustice in the United States, our students, parents, staff and teachers are persevering and finding ways to adapt.
For example, Los Cerritos Elementary School reported that students were initially apprehensive of online school. However, during the second week, students began feeling more comfortable and started talking and “raising their hands” for their teacher to call on them. Parents also said they appreciated how teachers have been able to differentiate the assignments for students with disabilities and are impressed with how attentive our educators have been and how well they have managed the students from afar.
I also want to inform you that we have published a new guidebook on the reopening of our district, which you can reference when questions arise. We will revise this document, as things change, but for now please feel free to use it as one of your primary references regarding our reopening. The Reopening SSFUSD guidebook, our list of frequently asked questions (FAQs), and other resources are all available on our website at www.ssfusd.org.
Additionally, we are working in collaboration with our district’s PTA Council to organize a forum where our teachers and administrators can elicit and respond to parent questions and share insights about how things have gone so far.

¡Que tenga un feliz y seguro Día del Trabajo! El primer mes de escuela casi está completo. A pesar de los desafíos de COVID-19, los recientes incendios forestales y las preocupaciones sobre la injusticia en los Estados Unidos, nuestros estudiantes, padres, empleados y maestros están adaptandose.
