KPIX-TV reporter Ken Choi visited Spruce Elementary School on August 31, 2022, where he talked to recently retired third grade teacher Jacqueline del Bianco, who has returned to Spruce Elementary as a volunteer to help maintain the garden she used to tend with students when she was still working.
"I’ve been working on this garden for about 10 years, so we’ve come a long way,” said del Bianco, “but the garden has become a very, very nice space for the kids.”
Also present was Spruce Elementary’s new principal, Angelica Garduno.
Garduno joined South San Francisco Unified School District (SSFUSD) 15 years ago and had been assistant principal at Parkway Heights Middle School for the past four years.

“This is the first school I’ve worked at where I’m taller than the students,” Garduno joked.
The visit was KPIX’s second in six years.
In 2016, Choi produced a story about the Spruce Elementary garden for the morning news’s “Cool Schools” segment.
