Dear SSFUSD Community,
It's almost the end of the school year, and I want to thank you for working with us to make sure that our students have been learning, achieving, and actively engaging in school events this year. Your efforts are paying off! Our amazing students from El Camino and South San Francisco High Schools recently took home 47 of 50 scholarships at the South San Francisco Chamber of Commerce's scholarship luncheon on April 25. Our annual senior awards have also demonstrated how achievement and success continue to be the hallmarks of our high schools, while our Golden Apple Awards honor the contributions of our employees and retirees.
It's always inspiring to see our students graduate and start a new chapter of their life, but it's also a testament to the commitment you as a community and we as a district have made to support our students. You have been doing this throughout the years by attending your children’s extracurricular activities, supporting their studies, picking them up when they fall, tending to their needs, and encouraging them to do their best. It has been an incredible journey!
This year, we focused on providing and maintaining the following five priorities identified in our new strategic plan: (1) exceptional instruction, (2) engaged students, (3) purposeful partnerships, (4) empowered educators, and the (5) creation of equity-centered systems.
As we work toward these priorities over the next few years, we will concentrate on specific initiatives to help us achieve our goals. Next school year, for example, we will focus on working together with students to showcase the ways in which they learn, thrive, navigate their futures, and impact their community; in fact, some educators have begun working on this already! Additionally, we will prioritize common district-wide, signature instructional practices and further our efforts to keep students highly engaged. As always, we welcome your active engagement and will provide you with updates to keep you informed of our journey.
One event that I would like to highlight is our recently concluded Community Learning Exchange, where we came together with members of the community to discuss what purposeful family and community partnerships can look like and to share how we can work together to bring our portrait of a graduate to life.
We very much appreciate how you have leaned into all the changes we are ushering in to the district. Last May, we finalized our new portrait of a graduate. In January, we put together a new strategic plan, and we are now collaborating and determining the best ways to implement it. However, we would have been unable to do any of these things without your involvement and support.
Engaging in the lives of your children is really the key to ensuring their academic and extracurricular success, so we will continue to rely on your involvement and help to ensure their happiness, health, and social-emotional well-being. Thank you so much for supporting our schools, our teachers, and our employees. Please let me wish you all a wonderful, joyous, and relaxing summer.

Este año, nos centramos en proveer y mantener las siguientes cinco prioridades identificadas en nuestro nuevo plan estratégico: (1) instrucción excepcional, (2) estudiantes comprometidos, (3) asociaciones con propósito, (4) educadores empoderados, y (5) creación de sistemas centrados en la equidad.
Mientras trabajamos hacia estas prioridades en los próximos años, nos concentraremos en iniciativas específicas que nos ayuden a alcanzar nuestros objetivos. El próximo año escolar, por ejemplo, nos centraremos en trabajar junto con los estudiantes para mostrar las formas en que aprenden, prosperan, navegan su futuro e impactan en su comunidad; de hecho, ¡algunos educadores ya han comenzado a trabajar en esto! Además, daremos prioridad a las prácticas de instrucción comunes en todo el distrito, y promoveremos nuestros esfuerzos para mantener a los estudiantes altamente comprometidos. Como siempre, nos gusta su participación active y les proveeremos noticias para mantenerles informados de nuestro viaje.
Un evento que me gustaría destacar es nuestro intercambio de aprendizaje comunitario recientemente concluido, donde nos reunimos con miembros de la comunidad para discutir cómo pueden ser las asociaciones familiares y comunitarias con propósito y compartir cómo podemos trabajar juntos para dar vida a nuestro perfil de un graduado.
Apreciamos mucho cómo se han apoyado en todos los cambios que estamos introduciendo en el distrito. El pasado mes de mayo finalizamos nuestro nuevo perfil de un graduado. En enero, elaboramos un nuevo plan estratégico, y ahora estamos colaborando y determinando las mejores formas de implementarlo. Sin embargo, no habríamos podido hacer ninguna de estas cosas sin su participación y apoyo.
Participando en las vidas de sus hijos es realmente la clave para garantizar su éxito académico y extracurricular, por lo que seguiremos confiando en su participación y ayuda para asegurar su felicidad, salud y bienestar socioemocional.
