Facility Needs

A long range facility master plan (LRFMP) is a study that:
  • Identifies the educational needs of the spaces at school sites;

  • Projects student enrollment;

  • Calculates classroom capacity;

  • Assesses the condition of facilities;

  • Identifies needed education specifications and improvements; and

  • Identifies funding options and opportunities.

Long-Term Projections

According to South San Francisco Unified School District's (SSFUSD) latest LRFMP, the district could experience increased enrollment by 2030 due to the construction of 2,950 new housing units in the area.
 
Specifically, consulting firm Eric Hall & Associates (EH&A) projects that by 2030 there will be a total of 31,379 residential dwellings within SSFUSD's enrollment boundaries.

This compares to 26,335 housing units in 2010 and 28,429 housing units in 2019.
 
EH&A expects this increase of 2,950 new housing units within SSFSUD to result in:
  • 477 elementary school students;

  • 240 middle school students; and

  • 338 high school students.
To meet this need, SSFUSD would need to upgrade, renovate, and expand existing school buildings and facilities.

EH&A analyzed data from sources such as the United States Census Bureau, California Department of Public Health, California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System, and statewide enrollment data from the State of California to prepare the LRFMP.
