Teacher Induction

South San Francisco Unified School District (SSFUSD) aims to provide our students with exceptional teachers who are empowered to meet their needs.

The district's teacher Induction program promotes the well-being of beginning teachers by providing support through collaboration and reflection. The induction program is only open to applicants employed with SSFUSD.

If you represent a school that is interested in working with our induction program leaders to help new teachers clear their credential, please contact Lottie Kuwada at lkuwada[at]ssfusd.org.

Teacher induction programs are locally designed and implemented in accordance with the Standards of Quality and Effectiveness for Professional Teacher Induction Programs and aligned with the California Standards for the Teaching Profession

The SSFUSD teacher induction program is designed to support the professional development of beginning teachers. The program engages preliminary credentialed teachers in a job-embedded formative assessment system of support and professional growth to fulfill the requirements for the California Clear multiple subjects, single subject, and education specialist credentials.
New teachers who are currently employed with SSFUSD are eligible to apply for the induction program beginning in the 2017-18 school year.
Teachers who have already completed a year of Induction at another school district are eligible to participate in the SSFUSD induction program during their first year in the district. Transfer teachers must provide a verification letter from their previous induction program.
The program takes two years to complete.
Depending on availability, new teachers will be assigned an on-site mentor or a teacher on special assignment (TOSA), who possesses similar credentials and experience in the same grade level or subject.
Exceptional teachers possessing multiple years of experience may be eligible for the early completion program, during which they will complete all requirements in one year.
Our program focuses on mentoring and working collaboratively to address the needs of beginning teachers. Participants will complete two inquiry-based cycles per year, addressing their current goals. The induction handbook has more information about the program's requirements.
