San Mateo County Health Officer Issues School Operations Modification Order San Mateo County Health Officer Dr. Scott Morrow has issued a School Operations Modification Order that will take effect on Monday, March 16, 2020, and remain in force through Friday, April 3, 2020, unless amended by the County or State health officer.The order requires all schools to dismiss students from regular attendance and encourages schools and school districts to implement at-home learning models if feasible.
Coronavirus Forces ECHS to Cancel First Ever Trip to Spain Back in September 2019, El Camino High School’s (ECHS) Spanish and video arts teacher Daniel Britton started making plans to take more than 40 students on an 11-day tour of Spain during spring break. It would have been the first time that ECHS students traveled abroad as part of a school-sponsored cultural enrichment program. Although the coronavirus outbreak has caused the cancellation of the trip, Mr. Britton remains hopeful that his students will be able to take part in this experience next year.
California Governor Gavin Newsom Issues Executive Order to Suspend Standardized Testing for Students in Response to COVID-19 Outbreak To reduce the strain on students, families and educators during the COVID-19 outbreak, Governor Gavin Newsom issued an executive order in March to waive, pending federal approval, this year’s statewide testing for California’s more than 6 million students in K-12 schools.
